What Kind of Website Do I need to Get Started?

All themes run on the self-hosted platform wordpress.org. You need 1) a subscription to a web hosting service, 2) a domain name, and 3) WordPress already installed before uploading this item. WordPress is free and many web hosting services offer a super easy install process to add WordPress to your website.

The themes are not compatible with Divi, Squarespace, Wix, Blogger, Genesis, Shopify, or Showit.

Do I need to use WordPress.Com?

No! To run a WordPress website, you need 1) a domain name and 2) a subscription to a web hosting service.

wordpress.com is one example of a web hosting service, but it’s not required. In contrast, wordpress.org is the free-open source software that can be installed on any website.

wordpress.com is the only web hosting service that limits functionality depending on your plan. If you choose to use wordpress.com as your web hosting service, please make sure to purchase the Business plan to upload custom themes and plugins.

What Is Elementor? Do I need It?

The Elementor Website Builder is a WordPress plugin. It is a plugin that works together with Pix & Hue themes. You install the plugin under Plugins > Add New in the WordPress Dashboard. Once Elementor is activated, it adds a fully visual web page builder to WordPress.

Yes, you need to use Elementor with all Pix & Hue themes! All of the theme pages (i.e. Home, About, Services, etc) are built inside the Elementor Website Builder.

After importing the theme pages onto your own website, you will use the Elementor editor to replace the demo content with your own content.

There are two levels of Elementor – a free version of Elementor and Elementor Pro. Editing the pages is exactly the same with both versions of Elementor. Elementor Pro has more advanced features available (like an online shop), but it requires an active subscription.

I offer some themes that require a subscription to Elementor Pro, but others work with the free version of Elementor. Please carefully read the description of the theme to find out exactly what version of Elementor you need.

I want to switch wordPress themes, how does it work?

When you switch WordPress themes, it will likely result in changes to the layouts and styles of any existing pages (i.e. Home, About) installed with a previous theme.

You will import an exact copy of the Pix & Hue theme Elementor pages onto your website. And use the Elementor editor to replace the demo content with your own content. These will become the new pages of your website.

All of the new theme pages will be added in addition to your existing pages. Your old pages may lose their style and formatting, but nothing will be removed from your website.

Some website builders (like Divi and Flodesk) will leave behind gibberish (instead of actual content) after deactivation. I recommend copying down any content you want to use to a separate document so you can easily paste it into the new pages of your site.

If you have single blog posts created with the WordPress editor, all of the blog content will remain the same. The single blog posts will simply take on the style of your new theme. If you have questions or concerns about your current website, please do not hesitate to get in touch!

What Can I customize with the themes?

There is so much flexibility with Elementor! The pages are created in a fully visual page builder, and you can see the exact page update live as you are making changes.

You can easily make standard changes like replacing the demo content with your own text + images and also updating all font styles and colors in the theme.

With Elementor, you get more advanced flexibility – add new sections to a page, delete sections, re-order sections, and copy / paste sections between pages.
